DIY and Dumplings | Little Loves #5

I have to say that this week has been another testing one. And I haven't even had a half-term! This time next year however...! Both children have got over their illnesses, in time for me to get some kind of cold, deafness in one ear and a horrible sore throat, which seemed to get better then come back. Alexander's sleep hasn't improved much so I've been missing my beauty sleep. Here's to a better week ahead. In the meantime, here is my rather wordy, less photo-containing Little Loves post.

A lot of viral meningitis vaccine-related threads on Facebook, following recently published photos of a little girl who succumbed to the virus. Currently meningitis B vaccines are only offered to babies born after May 1st 2015 but for those who may want to source it privately for their older children apparently there might not be enough for the moment. If you haven't already, do acquaint yourself with the key signs of meningitis, have a read here.

I watched the first episode of series 3 of The 100. I had almost forgotten what the heck has been going on, but it slowly came back to me. I didn't love it but I hope I feel differently when Game of Thrones is finally back on!

I listened to Lady Gaga's David Bowie tribute from the Grammy Awards and it was pretty good. She has an excellent vocal range and an image as creative as Bowie's was.

On Tuesday Rob and I had our first date night in for a while and we intend on having one each week with a special homemade meal. This time I made pork gyozas, which are chinese dumplings filled with pork, soy sauce, ginger, spring onions, egg and savoy cabbage. They tasted pretty good but they took a lot of effort to make, especially making the dumpling dough and rolling each 'pot-sticker' out individually.

[I forgot to take photos as we were greedy pigs, but I did film some footage of making the dumplings so stay tuned for another weekly vlog on my YouTube channel soon!]

I have been trying out 3 new makeup products which I will showcase in a 'Get Ready with Me' style of vlog and blog post if people would be interested to watch or read that kind of thing. Already I have decided that one product is not for me, which is a shame but all will be revealed in due course.

And lastly

I have almost completed painting Lily's room and it is about time! What with having staggered child illnesses, followed by myself getting ill, painting got put on the back-burner. Another coat of wood-paint on the skirting boards and it will be complete. Then on to the next project; painting an untreated IKEA bedside table with Rustoleum chalk paint. I will showcase the before and after in a post soon.

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

  1. Sounds like you've had a bit of a sick house this week! Hope you're feeling better soon. Love that grey paint! My little one had the Men B vaccine when he was born. He was born in Spain and they give it to them in the delivery suite. I read today that the petition about the vaccines is the biggest one ever received, so it's clearly something that people feel very strongly about. Hope you manage to rest up and have a good weekend x

  2. The meningitis threads on FB have certainly been doing the rounds and its definitely something everyone needs to be aware of. Such tragedy.. Lady GaGa is such a talented artist and was amazing at the Grammy's.. Hope you are all recovered from your illness, its certainly doing the rounds! Popping over from #littlelove

  3. Those dumplings sound delicious, I'm such a lazy cook though and wish I was more adventurous as they definitely sound like they are worth the effort.
Hope to see you linking up for Little Loves tomorrow xx

Thanks for reading, please leave a comment. I would love to hear from you
